You're Vegan?...What is that?

You're Vegan?...What is that?

What is a vegan? I mean, what do you eat?...How do you LIVE??!! Ever since I turned vegan in 2019, these are some questions I have been asked and I still get asked to this day.

I launched my Manchester based UK vegan brand, Amy York, just over a year ago now and I am still amazed that people don't know what being vegan means. To be fair though, I was exactly the same before I turned vegan because the thought never crossed my mind at the time. I had wanted to turn vegetarian for years but just never did because of so many reasons but then I decided to go vegan (all in, I know!) and the day I did, I never turned back.

I thought I'd share some of the basic ideas around a vegan lifestyle covering:

  • Food & Diet
  • Fashion & Textiles
  • Animal Testing and Cruelty-free

Food & Diet
Choosing not to eat any products derived from an animal including meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, honey etc.

Fashion & Textiles
All vegan fashion products are animal-free including clothing, accessories, shoes homeware etc. This means avoiding animal derived materials including real fur, leather (also suede), Silk & Wool.

Animal Testing & Cruelty-free Products
Purchasing products which are produced without harming animals. For example from brands not testing on animals across all industries. E.g. Lush, BareMinerals, Huda Beauty, Superdrug's Own Brand etc.

Have you recently turned vegan? Have you been thinking about it but never made the jump? Are you thinking of turning vegetarian?...

Part two: Choosing Vegan Fabrics coming next week.
